Every dollar plants a tree.
We’ve been staying indoors most of the time for more than a year now. At some point, you may have felt its negative effects – cabin fever (distress and listlessness from being confined for a long time), neck and back pains from sitting or slouching too long, decline in mental health – and all these factors can ultimately lead to depression.
As natural beings, humans are drawn outdoors and yearn to enjoy the sun and fresh air every now and then.
And as natural beings, we draw energy from the earth.
Earthing, also known as “grounding”, is a form of therapy that involves activities that “ground” or reconnect you to the Earth. These activities reconnect you with the Earth’s electrons which are found to have healing properties.
Our modern life has disconnected us from our natural source of energy. That’s why we are so prone to illnesses and are easily stressed out.
Being caught up in our daily grind, we may not even be aware of this disconnection.
How then can we know if we need to re-energize through grounding?
If you often have racing thoughts, feel anxious and worry a lot; if you feel stressed all the time, have irrational fears, and find it hard to focus; if you always feel tired and drained, and sleep doesn't seem to help.
These are the telltale signs that you need to reconnect with the Earth.
Just like sunshine and air, Earthing costs us nothing. Its main focus is to make us one with the Earth. All you have to do is go outdoors and do the following activities:
Walk barefoot
This can be done on the grass, on the sand by the sea, or even on mud. The point here is to make your skin touch natural ground so as to transfer the Earth’s electrons to your body.
Lie on the ground
Feel the Earth’s energies run through your body when you lie on the ground. When going for a picnic, lie on the grass. A day on the beach is an opportunity to rest on the sand while basking under the sun (Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!).
Submerge in water
Immersing yourself in a natural body of water, such as the ocean or a lake is also a way to connect with the Earth’s energies. Go for a swim or wade in shallow natural waters. It’s a sure way to feel refreshed.
Scientific studies on the benefits of Earthing are still ongoing, especially for conditions involving inflammation, cardiovascular disease, muscle damage, chronic pain, and mood.
It is believed that through grounding or Earthing, the natural defences of the body can be restored. It is a good therapy for those experiencing pain, fatigue, sleep disorders, stress, and depression.
This is the ultimate goal of Earthing – to restore our connection with the Earth. It is our main source of energy and healing.
It is still recommended that we seek professional medical care for serious conditions. But for quick rejuvenation and recharging, know that Mother Nature offers everything we need. All you have to do is to step outside and reconnect with her.
And remember, whatever activity you choose to perform grounding, always be aware of your surroundings and avoid risks.
The Earth is our only home. It contains everything we need to live. That’s why we are always encouraging everyone to do their part in caring for our planet. Learn more about what we do and how you can join our Pro-Earth community.
